<p>Robots size may vary a lot. The smallest industrial robot has a size of A4 piece of paper, the biggest one has almost five meters of reach.</p>



<p>The video below shows very well a wide variety of sizes. You have to remember that even a small robot can have a large working workspace thanks to an<a href="https://roboticsbook.com/gantry/"> additional rail</a>. You could also place&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.kuka.com/en-ch/products/production-systems/standard-products-for-automation/ks-robot-pedestals" rel="noreferrer noopener">the robot on the pedestal</a>, so he can reach higher.</p>

<h2>KUKA.Sim Pro &#8211; simulation and offline programming</h2>



<p>I haven’t met anyone who uses KUKA.Sim Pro every day. For robot configuration there is KUKA WorkVisual, for robot selection KUKA Payload Checker. Simulation? Usually, an application like Process Simulate or RobotExpert provided by the external maker.</p>



<p>Maybe it’s worth giving a KUKA.Sim Pro chance? If you don’t have anyone to ask about how to use this program, I recommend you take a look at Facebook. ML Tecnik company has been posting <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MLTECNIK/videos/?ref=page_internal">a lot of training materials</a> recently.</p>



<p>The available version is KUKA.Sim Pro 3.1.2.23. Registration via company e-mail on <a href="https://my.kuka.com/s/login/?language=en_US">my.kuka.com</a> is required. To get the activation key go to the Product &amp; Service Data tab, and then to the link to KUKA.Sim Demo, where there will be a button to generate a key to the demo version.</p>

<p>On Windows you have to <a href="https://www.python.org/downloads/">download and  install Python</a> first. Then download all files from Github (green<em> <a href="https://github.com/alexgand/springer_free_books/archive/master.zip">Clone or download</a></em> button) and unzip it on your PC.</p>

<h2>Online courses catalogue</h2>



<p>You get access to two sections: <em>Video Catalog</em> and <em>Self-Paced-Course</em>. In the first one there are a short tutorial videos showing some interesting features or a way to solve specific problems. Self-Paced-Course is a fully-fledged online course. The training materials are the same as in commercial training courses for Siemens software.</p>

<h2>Virtual robot</h2>



<p>MotoVRC supports a wide range of controllers from the NX100 through FS100, DX100 to the latest DX200 and YRC1000. Operating a virtual robot is no different from the real one (unfortunately <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/14.0.0/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> ) The teach pendant on the screen is a 1:1 representation of a real device. A great idea is mapping keyboard keys to virtual keys. It is possible to build multi-robot systems (double, triple configuration + rotator) and the simulated times exactly reflect those achieved in reality.</p>

<p>If you are familiar with European manufacturers only, you will have to get used to a completely different philosophy of use (both robot and software). Nevertheless, it is worth trying. Yaskawa is one of the biggest manufacturers of robots, it is worth understanding the philosophy of its products.  </p>



<p>MotoSim in terms of ease of use and intuitiveness it will be harder than with ABB. Fortunately, there are official<a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoQTh8O3tekKLMGU4_nlXrHV8uoZJdFz5"> tutorials available on Youtube</a>.</p>

Instead of the standard 30 days, we have a few months to spend on learning and testing our ideas.</p>

<p>Nissan decided to use the same technology for some other purpose. Instead of building futuristic vehicles, using this kind of forming to reproduce old parts. Thus, all owners of old Skyline GT-R cars should be able to order original body panels supplied by Nissan.</p>



<h2>Forming without press dies</h2>



<p>Normally for produce body panel, there is a required a whole press line. Each press is equipped with dies which are bending a little a metal sheet in consecutive presses till panel will reach a final shape. Production of a single press die is very expensive and time-consuming. Also a changeover requires a lot of time. Because of that production of body panels is cost-effective only in mass production.</p>

<h2>Cost-effective production</h2>



<p>Spare parts for very old cars are heavily available on the market because there is no easy way to make them at affordable price. But this is no longer true for Nissan old cars. They could be produced without a problem using two side forming (no stamping dies needed!). Only CAD data is required to produce any,  body panel. If a car is really old and digital model of its parts is unavailable it can be simple 3D scanned.</p>
